When Does ‘Yellowstone’ Spinoff ‘Y: Marshals’ Come Out? Everything We Know About the Kayce Dutton Series
The Yellowstone universe just keeps expanding—and fans of Kayce Dutton have a brand-new reason to celebrate. The upcoming spinoff series, Y: Marshals, puts Luke Grimes’ fan-favorite character front and center in a fresh storyline. But when exactly is it coming out, and what can viewers expect? Here’s everything we know so far about the much-anticipated series.
When Is Y: Marshals Releasing?
Although CBS hasn’t locked in an exact premiere date, Y: Marshals is officially scheduled for a midseason premiere during the 2025-2026 TV season. The show will debut in spring 2026 and air on Sundays at 9/8c on CBS. The primetime Sunday schedule will look like this:
-
7:00 p.m. – 60 Minutes
-
8:00 p.m. – Tracker
-
9:00 p.m. – Y: Marshals
-
10:00 p.m. – Watson
Will Monica and Tate Be in the Spinoff?
While the full cast hasn’t been announced yet, it’s very likely that Kelsey Asbille (Monica) and Brecken Merrill (Tate) will return. The series is set in Montana, and since Yellowstone ended with Kayce, Monica, and Tate living peacefully on the east camp of the former Dutton Ranch (now part of the Broken Rock Reservation), there’s a good chance we’ll see that storyline continue.
Luke Grimes, who plays Kayce, has hinted that there will be “familiar faces” alongside new ones. So while not confirmed, it feels safe to assume the Dutton family won’t be far from the spotlight.
Who’s Behind the Scenes?
Here’s where things get interesting: Taylor Sheridan, the mastermind behind the Yellowstone universe, isn’t serving as the main showrunner this time. Instead, Spencer Hudnut—best known for CBS’s SEAL Team—is taking over that role. However, Sheridan is still involved as an executive producer, so fans can rest easy knowing the original creator hasn’t stepped away completely.
The series is being produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, with a long list of executive producers including Sheridan, Hudnut, David C. Glasser, Luke Grimes, and others.
Is There a Trailer Yet?
No trailer yet—but one is expected to drop sometime in 2025, likely a few months before the show’s spring premiere. So keep your eyes peeled.
Why Did Kayce Dutton Get a Spinoff?
According to Grimes, the idea of Y: Marshals came out of the blue—about four months after Yellowstone wrapped filming. At first, even he was surprised, saying he thought his character’s story had reached a satisfying ending.
But then he heard the pitch.
Grimes shared with People magazine that the concept was “very, very good and very interesting,” and once he heard it, he was hooked. “We definitely wanted to give it a real story, make it believable,” he said. “If it was just like, ‘he’s happy’—we’re just going to watch him be happy? That’s not very cool.”
He added that ending Yellowstone felt like saying goodbye to family, and fans weren’t the only ones who weren’t ready to let go. “A lot of us actors kind of didn’t want it to be over, and the studio and network certainly didn’t want it to be over,” Grimes said.
Final Thoughts
While we still don’t know every detail, Y: Marshals looks like it’ll be a thrilling continuation of Kayce Dutton’s journey—with a few surprises along the way. With a new creative team, returning cast members, and Sheridan’s signature storytelling, this spinoff could be just what fans need to fill the Yellowstone-shaped hole in their hearts.
Stay tuned—Montana isn’t done with us yet.
